Black Spot Problems...
Black Spot fungus is one of
the most common diseases of roses throughout the world. It will cause a general
weakening of the plant so that fewer and fewer blooms are formed and the plant
will be increasingly subject to winter injury. The fungus appears as a black
spot on the upper leaf surface.
These spots can be as big
as 1/2" in diameter and the leaf will yellow and eventually drop off. The black
spot consists of tiny black spore producing bodies. These spores may even infect
the rose canes. Black spot can survive Canadian winters in fallen leaves and at
infection sites on the canes.
