Fly Problems...
Common houseflies exist
everywhere in the world except Antarctica. Adult houseflies only live for 1 - 5
months, but during that time the female can lay 4-5 batches, ranging from
100-150 eggs. The eggs are laid in moist decaying matter and develop into
maggots within 48 hours and within one to four weeks (depending on temperature)
emerge as adult flies.
The adult fly has a flight range
of at least five miles. Houseflies can transmit intestinal worms, or their eggs,
and are potential carriers of diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis,
typhoid, cholera and tuberculosis. Flies liquefy food by regurgitating digestive
juices and their stomach contents on the food substance. This "liquid" is then
drawn up by their mouthparts. They are highly active indoors and are a pesky
nuisance buzzing around people and food.
